Selling avocados to Chile is not just about being from Colombia.
It can be about being from the right orchard.
That’s what makes agricultural market access so interesting: sometimes approval is not granted at the country level, but at the level of a specific production site, packing facility, or treatment process.
So the real question is not only:
“Can this product enter the market?”
It is also:
“Can this exact farm, this exact packing house, and this exact supply chain enter the market?”
For companies working with fresh produce, this matters a lot.
Because market access can depend on details that are easy to underestimate:
where the fruit was grown
which facility handled it
whether that site appears on an approved list
whether the treatment and traceability requirements match the importing country’s rules
In other words, agricultural trade is often much more site-specific than it looks from the outside.
And that is a useful reminder for any business expanding internationally:
Market access is not always about the product alone.
Sometimes it is about the place behind the product.
